Federal Surplus Property

Federal Surplus Property obtains and redistributes surplus Federal Government property and late model federal vehicles to eligible entities within the State of South Dakota. In Fiscal Year 2020, $3.7 million in surplus property by original acquisition cost and $1.2 million in late model vehicles were turned over to the eligible entities. Federal Surplus Property is self-supporting; no tax dollars are appropriated for this operation.

This agency operates two distribution centers - one at Huron and one on the west edge of Box Elder, SD. The Administrative offices are located at the Huron site. Both Centers are open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Both remain open through the noon hour for customer convenience.

Application for Eligibility

Eligible organizations include: public agencies, 501 (c) nonprofit educational and health programs, programs funded for the elderly, veteran's service organizations, SBA 8a contractors, and educational activities of special interest to the armed services such as boy and girl scouts.

Please note that there are four pages to the Eligibility Application. Completion, signature, and return of all four forms along with the requested supporting documentation is required for approval of eligibility.
