CHRIS GUKEISEN, PE - Statewide Energy Manager
The Energy Management Office coordinates the state's purchases and efficient use of energy, including contact with the Western Area Power Administration (Western) and energy management programs.
SERVICES AVAILABLE THROUGH THE ENERGY MANAGEMENT OFFICE
The Energy Management Office advises institutions on the implementation of economical energy savings activities for state facilities and assists them in developing energy management strategies like load shaping and long-term efficiency plans. The office serves as the state's Western coordinator to ensure the Integrated Resource Plan remains in compliance. The Statewide Energy Manager advises the state on utilities and negotiates energy supply and delivery contracts.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE ENERGY PLAN (SEP)
State Energy Plan grants are provided to state agencies. The South Dakota State Energy Plan is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and implemented by the state's Energy Management Office. The long-term objective for the State Energy Plan is to promote energy efficiency and energy cost savings by helping South Dakota's institutions implement cost-effective energy efficiency improvement measures.

INTEGRATED RESOURCE PLAN (IRP)
Part of the Small Customer Plan for WAPA, investments are made in cost-effective electric energy efficiency improvement measures at Board of Regent campuses.

The State Energy Office is offering zero interest loans to state agencies for energy efficiency projects. Agencies must submit the following loan application data sheet to be considered for the funds.
